The first Carlisle Blues Festival was held at The Lakes Court Hotel (now The Hallmark) in 2007. Demand for tickets for the following year prompted a move to the Swallow Hilltop Hotel. The ‘Hilltop’, with its much larger and more practical function room, has played host to the festival since 2008.

The Carlisle Blues festival is an independent organisation which works in partnership with the Swallow Hilltop only for the duration of the event. The festival enjoys exclusive use of the hotel for the entire festival weekend.
